The purpose of the posthumous degree is a recognition of the academic achievement of the student, as well as a statement of their value to the Cal State Fullerton community. Students who, at the time of their death or prior to an illness or accident that leads to their death, were in good academic standing in a degree program may be awarded a posthumous degree by the President.

The Chair or Coordinator of the academic unit for the student's degree program may initiate the Posthumous Degree Approval in consideration of the award of a posthumous degree. Upon receipt of the recommendation, the Dean of the college shall submit their formal recommendation to the Provost for review. If the Provost concurs with the decision, the recommendation shall be forwarded to the President for final approval.

Please refer to UPS 300.164 Posthumous Degree and Recognition to follow the procedure and process.
